Nepal Images – Carrying Baskets
Some villages are so remote that the only way to supply them is either by foot or by donkey. Not everyone has a donkey, so this was the dominant method. Notice how the forehead and neck must support all the weight. If a westerner wanted someone to carry his backpack (which typically distributes the weight around the shoulders and hips), a porter would simply throw the whole thing into one of these baskets and carry it thusly.
